This Is Good News!

BEREA — Browns quarterback Brady Quinn will start Thursday night against the Denver Broncos, a Browns spokesman said this afternoon. It will be Quinn’s first start in the NFL.

Derek Anderson was benched after going 3-5 the first half of the season. Anderson is coming off a 37-27 loss to to the Baltimore Ravens in which he threw a costly interception at the end that thwarted any hopes of a comeback. The loss left the Browns at 1-3 in the division.

At his weekly news conference Monday morning, Crennel had said that he was sticking with Anderson as his starting quarterback, “as of right now.”

“I haven’t really (changed my thinking),” Crennel said at the time. “I haven’t had a chance to talk to the coaches, or anything. I told them to go ahead and start (preparing for) Denver.”

Anderson’s 17-of-33 performance for 219 yards, two touchdowns and one interception actually improved his season passer rating to 68.9. That ranks 31st among NFL quarterbacks.

Football Predictions 2008

Annually, I allow you all to accost and shame me with my NFL picks. Well, ’tis the season.

As I make my picks this year, I am looking for a reason NOT to pick the Browns. Gulp.

AFC East – New England Patriots
AFC North – Cleveland Browns
AFC South – Jacksonville Jaguars
AFC West – San Diego Chargers
Wild Cards – Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets

NFC East – Dallas Cowboys
NFC North – Minnesota Vikings
NFC South – New Orleans Saints
NFC West – Seattle Seahawks
Wild Cards – New York Giants, Green Bay Packers

Super Bowl – Cleveland Browns 38, New Orleans Saints 24

There. I did it. I have my reasons. I hope I didn’t just jinx it. Mock away.
